Heathers the Musical

How very! I took on the role of Set Designer for my college's production of Heathers (while also playing the role of a very angsty emo teen)! Put on the hard hat for this one- the role of set designer involved designing and building the entirety of the set for the musical. The set consisted of everything you see below, built from scratch. That means a platform and stairs built to hold a full dancing cast, lockers that had to open, stained glass windows, interchangeable backgrounds and, of course, a slurpee machine.

I took on this role to explore another aspect of engineering and how it may fit into more artistic fields. While set building doesn't directly relate to my branch of engineering, I learned a lot about what goes into production and truly enjoyed the interdisciplinary nature of it all.

Much was learned throughout the process of building. No matter how much planning went into the design, the two-week window in which we were allowed to build the set in the space made available to us made things challenging. Nonetheless, hard work payed off and the set was a success!
